Giants GM Joe Schoen in contact with big-name free agent’s reps

During the conversation that occurred on New York sports radio station WFAN, Schoen explained multiple factors will impact if the dynamic talent could potentially re-sign with the organization. Among them are Beckham’s financial desires and also the timeline for when he may return from the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee he suffered during Super Bowl LVI in February. 

Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk noted Wednesday that it’s been reported Beckham could be cleared at any point between the middle of this month and mid-December. 

Schoen made his latest comments after he said following Tuesday’s trade deadline that he would “consider” doing business with Beckham as long as the three-time Pro Bowl selection is “healthy.” The 6-2 Giants could certainly use the help. ESPN stats show they’re 30th in the NFL in passing and averaging a paltry 159.1 yards in the air per game. 

Understandably, the Giants aren’t the only team pursuing OBJ’s signature at the halfway point of the campaign. Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane said Wednesday that “of course we’d look into” acquiring Beckham. The one-time Super Bowl champion has also been linked with a return to the Los Angeles Rams, his most recent employer, and the San Francisco 49ers,
Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs and Dallas Cowboys, among other clubs. 

Per the Joe Bucs Fan website, NFL insider Albert Breer indicated during a Wednesday appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show” that Beckham is waiting for legitimate contenders to separate themselves from pretenders this fall. 

“It seems at least Beckham’s approach is, whatever is best for him is collecting the most information,” Breer remarked, “and waiting is the best way to collect information.” 

The Giants next host the Houston Texans (1-5-1) on Nov. 13 and then welcome the lowly Detroit Lions (1-6) to MetLife Stadium the subsequent Sunday.
