Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.

The 2021-2022 NBA season is underway, and the Spurs play their first game tonight, against the Orlando Magic, who they beat 101-100 on October 10 in preseason. In that game, the starters ran up a large lead until the deep bench took over for most of the fourth, letting the energetic Magic squad almost make it all of the way back to a win. The players responsible for that near collapse aren’t expected to play much tonight (especially the ones no longer with the team), so this is one regular season game where the Spurs are expected to dominate. But I wouldn’t expect anything, because this team is very young and unpredictable, but it will be fun to see guys like Keldon Johnson unleashed as the young guys no longer have an established veteran to defer to in end-of-game situations.

Listen now, to the ballad of Lonnie Walker
More of an actor than a talker
Entered the year without a contract signed
But his promise to succeed, will his performance bind

One final word:

Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
