The inconsistent Spurs take on the defending champs and try to win the season series
Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
UPDATE: I’m hearing that the NBA may be canceling today’s games due to the death of Kobe Bryant and the others killed in a tragic helicopter crash. I will update this post as I find out additional information.
UPDATE II: The game is happening. It would have been very difficult to cancel it with such short notice, and I guess the league decided not to disrupt a game that fans had already filled the seats to watch. It’s going to be hard to concentrate on basketball.
After a disappointing effort against the Suns on Friday night, the Spurs try to rebound this afternoon in a contest against the defending champs. The Spurs have been pretty good against the top teams in the Eastern Conference, but they also have been extremely inconsistent. The Toronto Raptors are led by Pascal Siakam and Kyle Lowry this year, since their best player from last year is enjoying the night life in Los Angeles. They’re still pretty good, currently in a tie for second in the east with the Miami Heat. The Spurs are going to need to hit their shots this afternoon, and get a solid offensive performance from one of the young guards, Derrick White and/or Dejounte Murray to be competitive today. DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge have been great this year, but the supporting cast has been inconsistent, and that is why the Spurs are currently ninth in the west, chasing the Memphis Grizzlies for the final playoff spot. They need every win they can get to remain in contention, so Go SPURS GooOOOoo!!
