The Spurs look to build on their big win with a victory over New Orleans

Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.

We’ve been seeing progress all season from the Spurs on defense, from an abysmal start to a respectable performance over the last few games. The offense hasn’t shown the same trajectory, it’s been stuck in the dumps since about the time the Sochan point experiment commenced. But on Friday night, it all came together with Devin Vassell’s best game as a pro, and with Sochan performing well on both ends of the court now that he shares the duties initiating the offense with various Spurs, including Malaki Branham and even Victor Wembanyama at times.

It feels great to finally break the losing streak with a big win, but the Spur have a tall order to extend it to a streak today against Zion Williamson and the Pelicans. Zion isn’t the only obstacle to wining today, Brandon Ingram and CJ McCollum torched the Spurs in the 121-105 Pelicans win on December 1, and Trey Murphy scored 18 off the bench in his first game returning from injury. The Pelicans can store from anywhere on the court, and the Spurs defense will be challenged today.

It’s an early afternoon game for the Silver and Black, and they need to have a quick start like they had on Friday to have a shot at winning today, so maybe someone needs to find Boris Diaw’s expresso machine to make some pre-game beverages, if it’s still in the locker room somewhere. This game time also overlaps with some important NFL games, so a lot of fans will be watching multiple sports at once. But you’re a Spurs fan, so you’ll be watching the Silver and Black.

Game Prediction:

Boris Diaw shows up in the locker room to make and serve expresso for the Spurs. Wembanyama is impressed that the Spurs provided a French barista for the players.

One final word:

Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
