Game Thread: San Antonio Spurs vs Golden State Warriors

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

It’s the last game of the 2010s, and the Spurs want to finish the decade on a win

Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.

This year’s Warriors roster is lacking the superstar talent of the title-chasing team that they’ve had since 2015, but don’t cry for them, because they’ll get Klay Thompson and Steph Curry back, along with a lottery pick next year. Steve Kerr seems to be enjoying this year, he’s coaching a team with marginal talent to play competitively, instead of just managing the ego of a gaggle of superstars as they use pure talent to cruise through the regular season. This team is a dangerous opponent for the Silver and Black, as Draymond Green is still distributing the ball and keeping the offense running. D’Angelo Russell is expected to be out tonight. If one or more of the role players (Hello, Alec Burks) for the Warriors has a breakout game, it’s going to be a long New Year’s Eve for the Spurs. Look for LaMarcus Aldridge to have a good night inside, and as ever, this is a good time for Lonnie Walker IV to get some experience and earn Pop’s trust by being consistent on both ends of the court. Let’s cheer our 8th place team and Go SPURS GooOOOoo!!
