Gabby Agbonlahor insists Manchester United SHOULD be eyeing up the Premier League title race with Erik ten Hag’s men just nine points behind leaders Arsenal… as the talkSPORT pundit urges them to ‘push’ the Gunners in second half of the season

Gabby Agbonlahor insists Manchester United should be aiming to be part of the title race as he backed them to push Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table.

United were in impressive form on Tuesday night as they swept away Bournemouth with a 3-0 win at Old Trafford thanks to goals from Casemiro, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford.

The victory leaves Erik ten Hag’s side in fourth, level on points with Newcastle and just a point behind rivals Man City in second.

United’s next two league games are at home to City and away to Arsenal. Speaking on talkSPORT this morning, Agbonlahor believes that United now have to be taken seriously as title contenders and says they should be looking to be in the title race.

‘I said this last week, I said that Manchester United should be looking at a title race,’ The former Aston Villa striker said.

‘Everyone was like you’re crazy saying that, but why not? A point behind Manchester City now, nine points behind Arsenal, Arsenal could still drop points. Manchester United have got to be looking at pushing Arsenal.’

The win over Bournemouth was United’s fourth victory in a row and their third consecutive clean sheet since returning to action following the break for the World Cup.

Fittingly United’s three goal-scorers against the Cherries have been key factors in the Red Devils recent good form.

Casemiro has been seen as a huge success since his £60million move from Real Madrid in the summer, while Luke Shaw has also impressed – both at left-back and centre-back.

Rashford meanwhile has already doubled his goal tally from last season and is currently one of the Premier League’s most in-form players.

His strike on Tuesday was his 12th goal of the season, continuing his run of scoring in every United game since he returned from World Cup duty with England.

Ten Hag’s side take on Everton in the FA Cup third round on Friday and then face League One side Charlton in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.
