Frank Lampard has urged Todd Boehly to give Chelsea‘s next manager the stability that has been missing at Stamford Bridge for decades.

Mauricio Pochettino is on course to take over from Lampard, who was brought back as interim manager after Graham Potter’s brief reign was ended.

It has been a chaotic first season under the club’s new American owners. The Blues are 12th, four different men have picked teams and the £600million-plus that was spent on 18 new faces has bloated the squad to 32 players.

Amid the chaos, Lampard urged co-owner Boehly to follow the blueprint of Manchester City, Liverpool and tonight’s opponents Arsenal.

‘I was part of the Chelsea team that changed managers regularly,’ said Lampard. ‘With casual hindsight, it is easy to say I had great success.

‘I won three titles, but I should have won five or six. That’s my feeling, if we had had more consistency and been able to work in one direction.

‘You look at the successful models at the top end of the league and you see managers that have been working there a long time, recruitment aligned with the type of squad they want.

‘You see City, Liverpool and Arsenal. So clearly if you want to get there it’s something that hopefully aligns. At the moment for us, it hasn’t.’

Pochettino could be named this week but is expected to take over in pre-season, leaving Lampard in charge for the last six matches.

He added: ‘It is going to be a difficult process of games. I just have to take decisions and enjoy working.’
