FPL bosses take note: The games Reece James will miss following red card vs Liverpool

The major talking point stemming from the meeting between Liverpool and Chelsea this evening is set to have noteworthy ramifications when it comes to the world of Fantasy Football.

Salah cancels out Havertz

The marquee fixture of the Premier League weekend is of course currently playing out at Anfield.

The meeting in question sees Liverpool and Chelsea facing off, in a highly anticipated showdown between two of English football’s biggest clubs.

The two sides headed into proceedings having enjoyed an almost identical opening to the season, racking up two wins from two, whilst finding the back of the net on five occasions, and failing to concede even once.

In turn, it came as little surprise when the opening 45 minutes on Merseyside this evening proved a hard-fought affair.

It was visitors Chelsea who opened the scoring midway through the half, when Kai Havertz did wonderfully to direct home Reece James’ whipped corner from the left:

On the stroke of the interval, though, the clash swung very much back in the favour of the hosts.

A chaotic sequence of events in the Chelsea area, starting with Joel Matip heading against the bar, ultimately culminated in Reece James clearing the ball off the line with the help of a hand.

Referee Anthony Taylor, in turn, opted to not only award a spot-kick, but also send the Chelsea defender for an early bath:

And Mohamed Salah made no mistake with his ensuing finish from 12 yards, sending Edouard Mendy the wrong way to guide the two sides in at the break with the scoreline at one apiece.

James latest

As the dust settles surrounding the decision to send James on his way, though, those of a Fantasy Football persuasion have since been left to query an altogether separate subject.

Just how long will the English international be ruled out for?

Premier League dismissals can sometimes result in confusion, with some – violent conduct, for example – giving rise to a three-game ban.

Thankfully for owners of James in FPL, however, the stopper does not face such a severe punishment.

Instead, he will be banned for just a solitary fixture, when Chelsea play host to Aston Villa on the 11th of September, following the international break.
