Broadway continues to change, though an upcoming project will give life once again to a local staple rooted in longtime San Antonians’ memories. The Ranch Motel is expected to be revitalized after being purchased by an area developer, though a key piece of land next door could mean there’s more to come.

The Ranch Motel is expected to reopen by the end of the year after boutique hotel developer Jayson Seidman purchased the property last month, according to the San Antonio Report. Seidman, a Boerne resident, has actually been working on the project, preserving the property and banking on the nostalgic aesthetic of the space, for more than two years. That doesn’t mean renovations will be skimpy, as an in-ground swimming pool has been added.

As the founder and CEO of Sandstone, a real estate development company, Seidman told the San Antonio Report that his interest came from not wanting to see chain restaurants and business take up the highly-visited and historic stretch of Broadway.

In addition to purchasing The Ranch Motel, which was originally built in 1948 and has 26 rooms, Seidman also scooped up the adjacent single acre of land where Kiddie Park was originally located. Seidman reportedly told the news site that the former amusement park land “won’t become a parking lot,” but instead wants it to feel more connected to Brackenridge Park rather than Broadway.

For now, those frequenting Broadway can look out for the Ranch Motel’s iconic neon sign, which is set to be repaired in order to draw in visitors in search of retro boutique lodging. Seidman has also transformed other lodging spaces in Austin, Marfa, and New Orleans.
