Former first-round receiver reportedly visits San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers are searching the bargain bin for receiving depth.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported on Thursday that veteran wide receiver Laquon Treadwell was visiting with the franchise. The 27-year-old wideout is searching for a new team after spending the 2022-23 season with the Seattle Seahawks.

The Minnesota Vikings initially drafted Treadwell in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, but after four underwhelming seasons in Minneapolis, the franchise opted to move on from the former Ole Miss standout.

Treadwell has since had stopovers in Atlanta, Jacksonville and Seattle, though he has never reached 500 receiving yards or three touchdowns in a single season. And that goes for his entire career. The big-bodied receiver posted just six total receptions for 42 yards and zero touchdowns over six games with the Seahawks last year.

Treadwell would almost certainly not be a difference-maker for the 49ers should he join the organization. But the team could use more options at receiver, given their paper-thin depth behind the occasionally-inconsistent Brandon Aiyuk and occasionally-high risk Deebo Samuel. The bigger question for the 49ers may be which quarterback will be throwing the ball to their pass-catchers.
