A 37-year-old man is dead after his former girlfriend’s new boyfriend allegedly shot him. The victim and his ex-girlfriend were attempting to have a private conversation shortly after noon Tuesday, March 28, according to a statement from San Antonio Police Department Sergeant Washington Moscoso during a news conference held Tuesday.

The unidentified victim was visiting his ex-girlfriend’s apartment located on the 4000 Block of Southcross Boulevard to reportedly talk about the status of their relationship. The new boyfriend reportedly got upset and asked the woman to exit the room, but the situation escalated soon after.

When the woman tried to leave the room, the new boyfriend reportedly started shooting into the room, striking a wall. The former couple were able to exit the room but the new boyfriend turned the weapon back onto the victim and shot at him several times. The woman was not injured. However, the man was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after law enforcement and first responders arrived to reports of a shooting in progress, according to Moscoso.

The boyfriend was able to flee the apartment, however an official with the San Antonio Police Department said they have detained two individuals fitting the suspect’s description of a man in his 30s. Police have not yet determined if they have the suspect in custody. Officers are currently interviewing the witness to gain more information.
