Erling Haaland ‘gives Borussia Dortmund team-mates luxury Rolex watches as farewell gift’

Erling Haaland has reportedly given lavish farewell gifts to his Borussia Dortmund team-mates and coaching staff as he gets set to join Manchester City. 

German publication Bild has reported that Haaland gifted 33 team-mates at Borussia Dortmund luxury engraved Rolex watches after his last training session for the club.

Each watch is believed to cost around £12,385 each, meaning he has spent over £408,000 in total on his team-mates. 

In addition, 20 members of the backroom staff have received OMEGA watches.

Each of those watches are said to have cost around £4,128 each, meaning he spent an additional £82,500 in total on the non-playing staff.

The Premier League leaders confirmed earlier this month that they had reached an agreement in principle for the £51million signing.

Haaland will join Pep Guardiola‘s side ahead of next season on a massive five-year, £385,000-per-week deal to come to the Premier League.

Haaland joined Dortmund from RB Salzburg in January 2020 and has become one of the deadliest strikers in world football.

The 21-year-old Norwegian has scored a staggering 86 goals in 89 appearances for the Bundesliga side.

He will join Manchester City in the summer, after Guardiola’s side saw off rival interest from LaLiga giants Real Madrid.

It’s understood his £385,000-a-week deal will put him in the club’s top wage bracket, alongside Kevin De Bruyne’s salary.

City were expected to part with £63m to trigger a release clause in the 21-year-old’s contract but have secured Haaland for £12m less than that figure.

Haaland’s father, Alfie, is a former City player and negotiated the personal terms alongside lawyer Rafaela Pimenta.

Agency fees and bonuses will take the eventual outlay to £85m. City believe the emotional attachment Haaland’s family have to the club helped convince him to join.

He bowed out from Dortmund at the weekend, scoring a penalty in their 2-1 victory over Hertha Berlin.

Before kick-off, he was given a round of applause by fans and team-mates and was then presented with a bouquet of flowers and a ‘Danke Haaland’ poster by Dortmund chiefs.

Dortmund have found a replacement in German star Karim Adeyemi, who follows the same path as Haaland from RB Salzburg.
