The Premier League has filled the vacant referring position left by Andre Marriner by promoting two new officials from the Football League.

Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) announced on Wednesday that Tim Robinson and Darren Bond will take charge in the top-flight following their promotion to Select Group 1.

The pair had primarily been officiating in the Championship with each taking charge of 29 games in the division last season, though both have made their respective debuts in the Premier League.

Robinson’s first taste of a Premier League action came in Burnley‘s 1-0 win against Newcastle in December 2019, while Bond made his debut in Leicester City‘s 1-0 home loss to Fulham last January.

PGMOL announced the news on Twitter in a statement that read: ‘PGMOL is delighted to announce that Tim Robinson and Darren Bond have been promoted to Select Group 1 for the 2023/24 #PL season!’

The Sussex FA-affiliated Robinson had been an assistant referee in the EFL between 2009 and 2012 before becoming an EFL referee.

He also took charge of two Premier League matches last season including Wolves’ 1-0 home victory against Tottenham in March.

Bond also officiated in the Premier League last year, including for Brentford’s 1-1 draw with Leicester in March where he dismissed Bees midfielder Shandon Baptiste in added time.

The news comes two weeks after the end of the season, which marked the final game in the middle for veteran Marriner, who called time on his 23-year career.

The 52-year-old officiated 391 top-flight games, the 2013 FA Cup final and was a FIFA referee for eight years.
