The San Antonio Economic Development Foundation has changed its name to better represent the region it helps grow.

Now known as Greater: SATX, the economic development felt the “SA” in SAEDF underrepresented the region it covers, reaching beyond the city limits to the larger metropolitan statistical are (MSA), including Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Medina, and Wilson counties.

Secondly, despite the word being in the original name created in 1974, the organization does not consider itself a “foundation” that gives funds to individuals or organizations, according to a handout announcing the name change.

“Through expanding our regional partnerships within the eight-county MSA coupled with our talent-led, industry-driven strategic approach to economic development, ‘SAEDF’ has proven to be limiting and unclear,” President and CEO Jenna Saucedo-Herrera.

The group now feels Greater: SATX better represents the organization’s reach and mission of creating regional partnerships that foster “mega-regional” growth.

The economic development group helps bring in companies to San Antonio area. Most recently, the organization was instrumental selling San Antonio to Pabst Brewing Company, which moved its headquarters here in October 2020.
