Dušan Tadić Departs Ajax by Mutual Consent

Ajax Football Club recently announced the departure of forward Dušan Tadić through mutual agreement, cutting short his contract by one year.

Official Statement

Sven Mislintat, an influential figure at Ajax, has addressed Dušan Tadić’s decision to terminate his contract, acknowledging the significant loss the departure represents for the team.

Sven Mislintat said, “Dusan informed us that he intended to end his employment in Amsterdam. Since his arrival in 2018, he has demonstrated his value to the squad and his leadership abilities both on and off the pitch.”

“His statistics from last season were astounding, and since moving to Amsterdam, he hasn’t missed a single Eredivisie game. He is departing, which is a huge loss for Maurice Steijn and his team.”

“Although we would have preferred to keep him, we understand his desire and wish him the best in his future endeavours. He has spoken with Ajax about the next stage in his coaching career, and we have informed him of this.”

Tadic on his decision

Dušan Tadić, while acknowledging the difficulty of his decision, shares his perspective on leaving Ajax Football Club.

“Leaving the club has been a very difficult decision to make. But I think now is the appropriate time. I believe a fresh start is appropriate for both the club and myself.”

“I have never felt anything like it in my career before, but my time at Ajax and the victories we have shared have given me an amazing sense. For the fantastic time I have had here, I would like to thank all of the supporters.”

“This is not the end of our goodbyes, if it were up to me. I’ll always be an Ajax player, and I hope to visit Amsterdam again soon in a new capacity as a coach.”

A Glance at Tadic’s stint at Ajax

In 2018, Tadic moved to Ajax from Southampton in England. The captain had a successful debut season at Ajax in 2018–19, winning the double and contributing significantly to the European run that concluded in the Champions League semifinal.

He received the Johan Cruijff Shield in 2019. Due to COVID, the 2020 season was halted, and Ajax finished first in the standings. They went on to win the title again the next two years. He has won three championships in total in the Netherlands. He twice won the Dutch Cup.

In addition, he received numerous individual awards while playing with Ajax. In the year he made his debut, he was named the Dutch Player of the Year. Tadic scored 105 goals while playing 241 games for Ajax.

What is the probable reason behind Tadic leaving

Dušan Tadić’s departure from Ajax has been surrounded by reports of growing dissatisfaction with the club’s transfer strategy and the perceived decline in the squad’s quality.

After a disappointing season where Ajax finished third in the Eredivisie following three consecutive titles, Tadić has expressed frustrations about the team’s cost-cutting transfer policy and feeling surrounded by lesser players.

His decision to skip pre-season training further fueled speculation about his concerns and potential departure.
