Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta is in line for a new contract at the club, according to reports late on Friday night.

It is understood that those in a position of power at the Emirates have been thoroughly impressed by the job carried out by the man in the dugout at the club since his appointment late in 2019.

Having continued to clear out an aging panel of players originally featuring the likes of Mesut Ozil, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and David Luiz, whilst ushering through an exciting crop of up-and-coming young talent, Arteta has secured the unwavering trust of board and ownership members alike.

In turn, the Spaniard is set to be imminently rewarded, courtesy of fresh terms at the Emirates.

As per a report from Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail, Arsenal intend to offer the club’s boss a new two-year contract before the season is out.

This comes with the Gunners brass wary of Arteta’s current deal being set to expire in 2023, lining up with the completion of Pep Guardiola’s terms at the Etihad.

It is thought that, should their iconic boss move on, and Arteta continue to impress in the capital, the City board could attempt to bring the one-time Sky Blues assistant back to the club.

Arsenal will therefore move imminently to tie their headmaster down for the coming seasons, by means of a deal including a considerable raise on his current £5 million-per-year wage packet.

Clarets test

Turning attentions back towards the pitch, Arteta is set to guide his troops back into action this coming Sunday.

A Premier League meeting with relegation-battling Burnley lies in wait, presenting the perfect chance for Arsenal to return to winning ways.

The north Londoners have stuttered of late, failing to win any of their last four outings across all competitions, the most recent of which saw Arteta and co. sent packing from the Carabao Cup at the hands of Liverpool on Thursday night.
