Deebo Samuel rips those criticizing 49ers’ responses to NFC title game loss

With Super Bowl LVII roughly 48 hours, it’s been nearly two weeks since the San Francisco 49ers fell to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. Still, a seemingly never-ending string of bitter comments from Niners’ players about the game emerges daily, leading many to label them as sore losers.

On Friday, wideout Deebo Samuel responded logically to the outcry against him and his teammates with a matter-of-fact post on Twitter.

It’s hard not to see Samuel’s side of things. The sting from the NFC title loss probably hasn’t subsided, if it ever will. Also, most of the comments coming from the 49ers were in response to reporters asking the same questions repeatedly. That point is especially true for the team’s Pro Bowlers and those in Arizona for Super Bowl week festivities, where media is everywhere.

Earlier this week, Samuel said that if not for the 49ers losing both Purdy and backup QB Josh Johnson to injury, the game against the Eagles “probably would’ve been a different outcome.”

Fellow wideout Brandon Aiyuk was particularly outspoken, saying the Eagles got “extremely lucky.” Aiyuk added that the Kansas City Chiefs would “expose” the Eagles in the Super Bowl.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Ward was the latest to talk trash. On a live stream, Ward targeted Eagles wide receivers Devonta Smith and AJ Brown, saying when he moves back to safety, “Somebody gotta pay, hopefully, both of them.”

The 49ers travel to take on the Eagles next season in what should be a nasty, likely nationally televised, matchup.
