Deadline roundup: Newcastle & Crystal Palace seal late deals, Klopp and co. miss out & why Aubameyang’s transfer is delayed
In this piece, we will take a look at some of the more high-profile last-minute transfers to have been pushed over the line (and those yet to be completed) ahead of the English transfer deadline.
First up comes the late efforts of the board at Crystal Palace to add to Patrick Vieira’s squad.
As confirmed in a series of posts across the club’s social media platforms late on Monday night, the Eagles have sealed deals for both Luke Plange and Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Teenage hitman Plange has linked up with Palace on a permanent basis, but sealed an immediate return to Derby County for the remainder of the season:
Welcome to Palace, Luke Plange! ✍️
Luke returns to @dcfcofficial on loan for the remainder of the season.
Wishing Luke and Derby all the best for the campaign 🤝#CPFC

Fellow striker Mateta, meanwhile, after making the move to Selhurst Park on loan in January of 2021, has now seen his status as a Palace player made permanent:
Jean-Philippe Mateta has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with the club ✍️
Delighted to have you permanently, JP! 💥#CPFC

Also active in the buildup to the deadline, meanwhile, were Newcastle United.
The newly-minted Magpies have of course enjoyed a January window to remember, sealing deals for all of Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes and Matt Targett.
And now, a further name has been added to this list, in the form of Brighton stopper Dan Burn, who has put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half year deal at St. James’ Park:
✍️ #NUFC are delighted to confirm the signing of Dan Burn from Brighton on a two-and-a-half year deal.
Welcome home, Dan! ⚫️⚪️

Brighton & Hove Albion too found themselves as buyers at the deadline, adding to the addition of hitman Deniz Undav with a 2nd late arrival, in the form of wide-man Benicio Baker-Boaitey:
Albion have signed Porto winger Benicio Baker-Boaitey on loan until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent move. ✍️

Elsewhere, when it comes departures from the Premier League, Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell has opted for a return to the Championship, linking up with promotion-chasing Bournemouth on loan for the 2nd half of the season:
Our fifth signing of the day ✅
We’re pleased to announce the arrival of @ToddCantwell_10 on loan from Norwich City.

Carvalho misses out/Auba on track
Turning attentions towards those deals which were not technically made official before the clock struck 11 in the United Kingdom on Monday, it is understood that Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli’s move to Everton remains very much on.
This comes with a deal sheet having been submitted before the deadline:

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s move from Arsenal to Barcelona also appears to be on track, despite having not yet been announced by the two clubs.
This comes amid the understanding that the latter have little intention of unveiling the Gabonese as their latest signing until Tuesday, with Arsenal still formalising the termination of his contract:
⚠️🔵🔴 Última hora: El Barça NO tiene previsto anunciar esta noche el fichaje de Aubameyang ya que el delantero rescindirá su contrato con el Arsenal y mañana puede firmar sin problemas como agente libre. Firmará seis meses + un año opcional @sport #fcblive pic.twitter.com/4lLGmaDUT2

One last-minute transfer which ultimately collapsed on Monday night, however, comes in the form of Liverpool’s swoop for youngster Fabio Carvalho.
As confirmed by a host of sources, despite Carvalho having completed a medical in a last-gasp effort to seal a winter move to Anfield, Liverpool and Fulham ultimately failed to sign off on the necessary paperwork in time.
There remains optimism, though, that a deal for the English youth international will be found with a view to the summer window:
Fabio Carvalho deal has collapsed. Medical done in Liverpool but paperworks were not fully signed before the Deadline. Clubs had full agreement but they knew they where in a ‘race against time’ 🚨🇵🇹 #LFC
