Dallas Cowboys restructure contract of key offensive line cog
On the same day that the Dallas Cowboys reportedly opted to release RB Ezekiel Elliott, the team announced that it has restructured the contract of one of its other core pieces — eight-time Pro Bowl left tackle and possible future Hall-of-Fame inductee Tyron Smith.
Smith’s restructured contract will save Dallas a whopping $8.89 million in cap room as free agency continues around the NFL.
Reports leading up to the start of NFL free agency indicated that the 32-year-old veteran could be in the chopping block with the 2022-23 performance of then-rookie Tyler Smith at left tackle giving Dallas another, far younger option on the line.
Smith (Tyron) has played in just 17 games over the past three seasons due to numerous injuries. He missed 13 games this past year with a torn hamstring.
