Dak Prescott, Cowboys reveal offensive weapon: Whac-A-Mole-playing tight ends

“The guys told me about it early in the week. They were worried about getting fined or a penalty,” Prescott said in a postgame news conference. “We said to make sure you’re up two touchdowns. We got a couple of guys that can take care of the fine so go for it.”

Perhaps Prescott endorsed because the position group played a pivotal role in a Thanksgiving victory, and the corps showed its dependability in a big game.

Dalton Schultz, starting TE, ignited a third-quarter comeback, catching two TD passes. Scoring on consecutive drives helped the Cowboys regain the lead and momentum after falling behind 10-7 at halftime.

Jake Ferguson, a rookie tight end out of Wisconsin, leaped over safety Jason Pinnock gaining 30 yards and setting up the trending TD celebration. Ultimately, Peyton Hendershot, another rookie tight end out of Indiana, secured the game with his rushing TD.

Besides the victory over an NFC East rival, the position group stepped up in a tight spot.

One critique leveled against the Cowboys’ offense is it’s too old-school. Instead of lining up multiple wideouts, they use several TEs to run the ball and control the clock.

However, it can become a problem if they fail to blend into the passing game because defenses key on one WR.

The Giants swarmed CeeDee Lamb, but they paid for it. Schultz and Ferguson combined for 88 receiving yards.

Per ESPN’s Todd Archer, the Cowboys TEs have had five receiving touchdowns since Week 6, tied with the Cheifs and Bears for the second-most in the league.

All four TEs were on the field during the game’s signature play, fitting because the unit did it in a game where they validated their worth.
