Cubs’ David Ross calls out umps’ calls, Brewers’ decision to close roof: ‘A lot of bulls–t’

The Chicago Cubs defeated the Milwaukee Brewers, 7-6, on Tuesday, but manager David Ross was still fuming after the game. 

Ross was displeased with the way the game was called by the umpires — and the fact that the Brewers’ decided to close the roof to American Family Field during the middle of the game.

The Brewers closed the roof late in the game, which Ross said was to get rid of shadows on the field. 

“I’m trying to balance the emotions and continue to have these guys execute and have good at-bats, and it just wasn’t very good,” Ross told reporters about the umpiring.

“We made that known and some guys were starting to get frustrated, and I know it’s not an easy job, but some of the pitches that got called today weren’t even close. It’s gotta be better.”

“They’re closing the roof to get rid of the shadows late,” Ross said of the roof situation, “it’s a lot of bulls–t that went on today that was just really frustrating.”

When the scrum of reporters asked Ross to further explain his position on the opening and closing of the roof, the Cubs skipper got even more heated. 

 “I f–king thought it was horses–t, I don’t f–king know,” a heated Ross responded. 

The Cubs blew a four-run lead late but managed to take the game in extra innings — in eventful style.

Ian Happ threw out two runners at the plate in extra innings, becoming the first player with two outfield assists in extra innings in the same game since the Mets’ Endy Chavez completed the feat on June 4, 2006, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

In the middle of all that, first base coach Mike Napoli was ejected from the game in the 11th for arguing balls and strikes. 

Ross then came out to argue after Napoli and then found himself tossed from the game by umpire Erich Bacchus. 

“There were so many things today that I thought weren’t good,” Ross said, according to the Associated Press.

“I’ve got terrible language today. I apologize.”

The Cubs are seven games back of the NL Central lead and six from a wild-card spot with their 39-45 record.
