CPS restores power to 33,000 customers following Friday’s storms

Lightning strikes and 77 mph winds wreaked havoc on San Antonio’s power grid at the start of the three-day weekend.

Friday night’s storm was a serious light show. Approximately 5,000 lightning strikes were produced in the area, paired with winds up to 77 miles per hour, causing serious outages across the city. 

CPS Energy responded fo 137 wire down orders, per a press release from the City of San Antonio, and cooling centers were activated for those affected by the storm.

As of 9 a.m. Monday morning, power was restored to 33,000 customers who were affected by the storm on Friday. A small number of unrelated outages are still being worked on, affecting less than 30 customers. 

Even with a restoration update, CPS Energy stressed more storms are in the forecast throughout the week that could “lead to the possibility additional outages.”
