CPS Energy finally restores power after mid-week storm, says to prepare for more

CPS Energy announced on Friday, April 30 that it restored power to customers, but to prepare for more outages.

Wednesday evening’s storms hit San Antonio and the surrounding areas, causing numerous weather-related power outages. CPS Energy announced Friday that it had finished restoring power to customers who had reported a disruption in service.

The company said the restoration had been completed as of 4 a.m. Friday, meaning that some customers were without power for more than a day.

“Our crews are committed to working through the dark of night and in the storm to get the power back on,” said Rudy Garza, the company’s chief customer engagement officer, in a press release. “We sincerely thank our impacted customers for their patience as our crews worked around the clock to restore power.”

But wait, there’s more!

There is a flash flood watch for San Antonio and surrounding areas through Saturday evening, which may bring multiple inches of rain to the area, according to the National Weather Service. The energy provider also advised customers to prepare for the inclement weather and potential power outages.

CPS Energy is asking customers to report outages online or by calling 210-353-4357; keep cell phones, battery-operated LED lights, flashlights, and batteries available; and have an emergency plan of where to go if you have an extended outage (isn’t that reassuring?). The company also gives tips related to power outages, including keeping the refrigerator door closed, discarding perishable foods, staying away from power lines, and checking your breakers.

Customers are also encouraged to follow CPS Energy’s Facebook and Twitter accounts for updates, in case you’re wondering why your energy isn’t back a day later.
