Cowboys Writer Shares Latest Michael Gallup Update
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup signed a five-year, $62.5 million extension this offseason.
The squad locked him in for the long term even if he suffered an ACL injury during last year’s final regular season game.
The Cowboys lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card Round without him.
But while he is on his way to recovery, his timetable remains indefinite.
However, the Cowboys did not place him on the physically unable to perform list, meaning he could return before Week 4.
Despite that positive development, the team isn’t risking his sudden return.
Cowboys insider Clarence Hill Jr. tweeted, “Jerry Jones said Michael Gallup can do anything you ask of him right now. Anything. They are just using common sense in being cautious with him.”
Perhaps Gallup is ready to perform light drills like catching and jogging.
Other than those activities, they have to bring him back in moderation.
While the recovery from ACL injuries can last up to 12 months, it could take longer if proper treatment isn’t applied.
Still, the Cowboys hope that Gallup will be ready as soon as possible to improve their receiving corps.
With Gallup sidelined, Noah Brown and Jalen Tolbert will be the other wideouts lining up with CeeDee Lamb.
Gallup’s NFL Career, So Far
The Colorado State alumnus was selected by the Cowboys in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
He had his breakout year in 2019 when he had 1,107 yards and six touchdowns.
Despite playing 16 games in 2020, Gallup regressed with 843 yards and five touchdowns.
In four seasons with the Cowboys, Gallup has 193 receptions for 2,902 yards and 15 touchdowns.
He also played in two postseason games for Dallas during the 2018 season, finishing with eight receptions for 137 yards and a touchdown.
