Cowboys, TE Dalton Schultz not close on contract extension

Dalton Schultz was among the notable names to report to Dallas Cowboys mandatory minicamp last week despite still waiting for a contract extension. It looks like the tight end will have to keep waiting for his next big payday.

The Cowboys placed the franchise tag on Schultz in March, and he decided to skip part of Dallas’ organized team activities this spring. Even though the two sides haven’t yet reached an agreement on an new deal, both quarterback Dak Prescott and head coach Mike McCarthy have indicated that they’re not concerned over the matter.

Schultz ended the 2021 campaign tied with the departed Amari Cooper for the team lead in touchdown receptions (eight) and was one catch behind CeeDee Lamb for the team lead in receptions (78). He also tied Cooper for second in targets (104) and third in receiving yards (808).

Schultz is entering his fifth NFL season and will turn 26 in July.
