Cowboys Showing Big Interest In Defensive Playmaker In NFL Draft

The Dallas Cowboys were a very busy team during the 2023 NFL Combine. They were one of the most active franchises when it came to conducting interviews and meetings as they met with 47 different prospects.

Dallas casting a wide net and doing their due diligence isn’t too surprising. They are coming off back-to-back double-digit win seasons and have a relatively strong roster. There aren’t any truly glaring holes present as they could use a depth upgrade at a few spots.

One of those positions is cornerback, so it should come as no surprise that the Cowboys met with numerous players at that position. Dallas met with nine cornerbacks and six safeties, so it is safe to say that the secondary is certainly a spot they are keeping their eyes open for upgrades.

Armed with the 27th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Cowboys very well could be in a position to select one of the players they met with. One of the prospects to keep an eye on is Kelee Ringo out of Georgia.

Arguably the most pressing need for the Cowboys this offseason is finding a running mate for Trevon Diggs. He has proven to be an elite cornerback, but the team is lacking a reliable option opposite of him.

Daron Bland was solid as a rookie, but with Anthony Brown hitting free agency, depth can be a concern. Going on 30 years old and struggling to consistently stay on the field, Dallas could go in a different direction than Brown this offseason.

Relying on Nashon Wright or Kelvin Joseph to fill the void opposite of Diggs would certainly be risky. Taking a shot on the athletically gifted Ringo could make a lot of sense. He isn’t afraid to mix things up in the run game and the physicality that he brings to the table helps in coverage as well.

Cleaning up some of his technique after committing nine penalties in 2022 is a necessity. Combining that with his elite athleticism and size would make him a handful to deal with at the next level opposite of Diggs.
