Cowboys’ Micah Parsons wants offensive reps after touchdown vs. Bears

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons would like to feature on offense after he scored a touchdown in Sunday’s win over the Chicago Bears.

“Yeah, Zeke [Ezekiel Elliott] said I look just like him,” Parsons remarked shortly after Sunday’s 49-29 victory that improved the Cowboys to 6-2 on the season heading into their bye week, per Layten Praytor of the club’s website. “I think I definitely deserve a rep now. They can’t say they haven’t seen it in a game. So hopefully I get thrown in a goal-line package or red-zone package.”

Some may remember how the Houston Texans used to utilize All-Pro pass-rusher J.J. Watt as a makeshift tight end/fullback in short-yardage situations:

Meanwhile, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy joked that Parsons’ 36-yard scoop-and-score could create a headache for the team’s staff down the road.

“I was obviously very excited,” McCarthy said of the highlight-reel play. “But part of me is annoyed because he wants to be on offense already. Now I’m going to have a hard time keeping him out of my office.”

ESPN stats show that Parsons, the 2021 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, began Monday tied for third in the league with eight sacks on the season and just 0.5 sacks away from sharing the lead in that category with Za’Darius Smith of the Minnesota Vikings and Matthew Judon of the New England Patriots.

“Honestly, I was like, ‘Geez I’m going to hear this for a while,'” Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott added about Parsons’ score. “That guy is an athlete. That guy is a hell of a player, one of the best in the league. And just for him to be able to go get that touchdown … trust me, many more will come in his career.”

After the bye, Dallas will play at the Green Bay Packers (3-5) on Nov. 13. Perhaps Prescott and Parsons will connect for a touchdown pass during that contest.
