Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy comments on Aaron Rodgers’ level of play

The NFL Combine is in full swing. Outside of teams getting to look at the prospects, it is also an opportunity for coaches and general managers to speak. Former Packers coach and current Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy took the podium today and had a very strong statement on Aaron Rodgers and his level of play.

Mike McCarthy On Aaron Rodgers

His statement was very clear. “I think Aaron is playing top-level football,” McCarthy said at the combine. Even after a down year stat-wise in 2022, McCarthy still sees Rodgers as one of the top quarterbacks in the league. Packers fans can attest to this as some of the throws that Rodgers made last season were unbelievable. While it definitely was worse than the back-to-back MVP seasons, Rodgers still showed he could make the insane throws we are all used to.

Will We Continue To See The High-Level Play?

Rodgers seems to hint that a decision is coming soon. Yesterday, GM Brian Gutekunst was very non-committal about Rodgers moving forward. Reading between the lines, it feels like the team would like to move to Jordan Love and see what they have in him. However, the situation is awkward as neither side wants to be seen as the bad guy. While Rodgers could be on another team, he could also decide to retire.

Who knows what will ultimately happen but Mike McCarthy still thinks that Rodgers can play at a high level. The decision is expected soon and every Packers fan is eager to hear who will be the quarterback in 2023.
