Cowboys’ Eric Scott Jr. Reveals First Thoughts On Dallas

One of the biggest areas of need for the Dallas Cowboys this offseason was cornerback. They have a star locking down one side of the field in Trevon Diggs, but opposite of him, things were shaky. With Anthony Brown hitting free agency, the need was even bigger with DaRon Bland as the only reliable depth behind him.

To address that need, the Cowboys made a trade to acquire former Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore from the Indianapolis Colts. A perceived weakness is now a strength for the Cowboys, who have a lockdown corner on both sides of the field.

Looking to continue adding depth to the position, the Cowboys used one of their draft picks in the 2023 NFL Draft on a cornerback. With the first pick of the sixth round, No. 178 that was acquired from the Chicago Bears, the Cowboys selected Eric Scott Jr. out of Southern Miss.

It is a landing spot that Scott is ecstatic about. According to Joseph Hoyt of Dallas News, the Cowboys are one of the teams that Scott had a top-30 visit with. He also met with the New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Indianapolis Colts and Minnesota Vikings, but it was Dallas where he wanted to be all along.

“I fell in love with it,” he said of his visit with the Cowboys, “and I’ve been dreaming of it ever since.”
