Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb Has Great Shot To Break This Franchise Record

There was a lot of pressure on Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb coming into the 2022 season. Because of some salary cap issues, the Cowboys suffered some major losses at the wide receiver spot in the offseason. The team saw Cedrick Wilson Jr. depart in free agency, signing with the Miami Dolphins and trading Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns.

That pushed Lamb into the unquestioned No. 1 receiver spot without much help behind him. Michael Gallup’s return to the field was delayed because of a torn ACL suffered near the end of the 2021 season and James Washington suffered a foot injury in training camp. As a result, Lamb was the only active player at the beginning of the season that had caught a touchdown pass in the NFL.

Defenses keying their entire passing game plan around slowing Lamb coupled with Dak Prescott injuring his thumb in Week 1 led to some up-and-down performances early in the season. However, Lamb eventually found his groove and has settled in as the team’s No. 1 option.

The Oklahoma product is having a career season, living up to the expectations that Jerry Jones bestowed upon him with their offseason moves. He has put up career-high numbers across the board, catching 102 passes for 1,307 yards and eight touchdowns.

CeeDee Lamb was named to his second consecutive Pro Bowl, earning it with a productive season. With the Cowboys still having a chance to win the NFC East, they will assuredly be playing their regulars against the Washington Commanders in Week 18. That is good news for Lamb, who has a real chance at capping his career season off by breaking a franchise record.

He needs 10 receptions to break Michael Irvin’s single-season franchise record of 111 receptions, which he set in 1995. Lamb has caught double-digit passes in the last two games and three times overall on the season.

Opportunities have certainly not been lacking as CeeDee Lamb has been targeted at least 10 times in half of his games played this season. If the Cowboys game plan another double-digit target game for Lamb against the Commanders, he has a real chance at rewriting the team’s record books this weekend.
