Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb comments on Dak Prescott’s struggles

After posting MVP-like numbers last season, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott struggled to find consistency in 2022, leading to plenty of outside criticism, especially after a miserable two-pick effort in the team’s divisional-round playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

On Wednesday, Cowboys No. 1 wideout CeeDee Lamb told USA Today’s Mackenzie Salmon from Super Bowl LVII that he has Prescott’s back and that the quarterback can’t “dwell on the past.”

“The position he plays, a lot of people are going to be after him, but I want him to know I’m always in his corner,” Lamb said. “He ain’t never have to doubt that, regardless of how he plays, good, bad or indifferent.”

When asked about what pundits have said about Prescott, Lamb responded, “some experts don’t know anything.” Lamb cited Prescott’s 305-yard, four-touchdown performance against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC wild-card round as proof enough to believe his quarterback can bounce back after a shaky effort against the Niners.

“I pray my man has a better season, which I know he will,” Lamb said.

While Lamb is firmly behind Prescott, he’s growing weary of the Cowboys’ early playoff exits.

“I’m trying to make it to this big game. I’m tired of coming close,” Lamb said. “I’ve only been here, in the playoffs, two years, and this is the furthest I’ve gotten, and I’m tired of the teases.”

Lamb, in his third pro season, recorded career-highs in catches (107), yards (1,359), and touchdowns (9).

Lamb’s continued emergence could lead to a significant future payday. Whether he receives it in Dallas or elsewhere might depend greatly on how Prescott performs next year.

With one year remaining on his four-year rookie deal, the Cowboys have until May 1 to exercise the fifth-year option in his contract. According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, Lamb’s option, if exercised, would pay the wideout $17.9 million in 2024.
