Country singer’s dog stolen from the Pearl found safe at a nature trail in Leon Valley

A Texas country singer was reunited with his dog Gretchen, who was stolen with his truck Monday at the Pearl.

What followed was an emotional roller coaster for the lead singer of Shane Smith and the Saints. On Tuesday, Smith posted an Instagram video pleading for the safe return for his Havanese, which had been inside his black Ford F-150 King Ranch pickup truck when it was taken from a parking lot near Hotel Emma at around 2:40 p.m. on Monday.

Smith and his wife had been in San Antonio to celebrate their anniversary and had made a quick stop at the popular destination. Within 10 minutes, the truck was gone and was seen only minutes later at the Quarry and then at the St. Luke’s Hospital parking garage at around 3:05 p.m., according to the country singer.

The truck was then taken from the parking garage just before 11 p.m., Smith said. He did not know if the dog was still inside at the time.

Smith offered a $10,000 reward. On Tuesday afternoon, Gretchen was found tethered to a tree on a nature trail in Leon Valley.

“We’re just in total shock right now…didn’t think it was possible. I don’t even know how to act or what to say other than THANK YOU and GOD BLESS every one of you for your efforts & empathy,” Smith wrote in a separate Instagram post. The message was accompanied by a video of Smith and Gretchen’s reunion with lots of smiles and tail-wagging.

As of Wednesday, the truck hadn’t been located.
