Coach of AFC contender dismissive of Ezekiel Elliott rumor

One of the teams Ezekiel Elliott is reportedly interested in joining might not share his level of excitement.

Serving as the keynote speaker at St. Xavier’s 39th annual Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner, Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor had a lukewarm response to an earlier report that the longtime Cowboys back wanted in with the AFC up-and-comer.

“There’s a lot of great players that are available right now,” Taylor said. “We like our team where it’s at right now, but it’s always fun to hear things get thrown around. Sometimes it’s the first you hear of it, but that’s just the way life works.”

Taylor could simply be giving a little coach speak while playing his true cards close to the vest, but if that is the case, he is doing a fantastic job of it, as he truly does not sound enthusiastic about the possibility of adding Elliott to Cincinnati’s backfield mix.

The Bengals already roster Joe Mixon at the running back position, though they actually could use a real backup, now that Samaje Perine has joined Sean Payton and company in Denver.

There have been hints that Elliott’s list of finalists amounts to a wish list and nothing more. If that is the case, that makes two teams that do not seem terribly interested in signing him.
