‘Class Act’ ‘A Star In The Making’ Fans On Social Media Hail City Starlet For Man Of The Match Display

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden was handed the man of the match award for his performance in the Carabao Cup final against Aston Villa yesterday.

The 19-year-old provided the assist for Sergio Aguero‘s opener in the 2-1 win at Wembley, and supporters on Twitter were praising the teenager following the game:

Despite being played out of position wide on the right, Foden was a constant menace for the Villa backline. He made late darting runs into the box to latch on to a number of long diagonal balls.

The midfielder was also very direct in possession, brushing off opponents and helping to set up attacks. After the game, manager Pep Guardiola was full of praise for the young Englishman:

“The way he fought and the way he’s ready to compete, I’m more than pleased with the way he played. He’s so clever in the small spaces. He can be here without a problem and I never doubted that he can do it. It was perfect for me and for him to let him play.”

Fans will be hoping that more regular game time will follow after Foden’s display against Villa. The match yesterday was only his tenth start of the campaign in all competitions for the Citizens.
