City And Chelsea Vying For Bundesliga Star But 400K Wage Demands Means One Team Has The Edge

Manchester City and Chelsea are both actively trying to sign Bayern Munich defender David Alaba on a free transfer after the Austrian’s prospective move to Spain fell through, according to reports in England.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have been heavily linked with the 28-year-old but they are unable to afford the centre-back’s £400,000 a week wage demands, handing the advantage to Premier League clubs.

The Citizens were interested in signing Alaba last summer, with reports suggesting that the player could have been used in a swap deal with Leroy Sane. However, the Austrian international stayed at the Allianz Arena and oped to run down his contract instead.

City are, though, unlikely to meet Alaba’s salary expectations, as they are willing to break their wage structure. This could well give the edge to Chelsea with it being claimed that the Blues are willing to put together a financial package that could meet the player’s demands.

Other teams have been linked with Alaba, including Manchester United, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain, but it seems City and Chelsea are the current frontrunners.
