Chelsea’s Mason Mount insists stars will have to adapt quickly when season resumes without fans

Mason Mount has urged his Chelsea team-mates to adapt quickly to their unfamiliar surroundings of playing behind closed doors when the Premier League resumes.

The English top flight restarts again on June 17, when Aston Villa host Sheffield United and Manchester City take on Arsenal following the league’s suspension since the beginning of March.

Chelsea restart their campaign on June 21 away at Aston Villa and will be desperate for all three points to keep up their pursuit of a Champions League spot come the end of the season.

There will certainly be an eerie feel to matches when the league kicks off again and Mount believes players will have to be very careful of their language without supporters in the stadium.

‘It’s going to be interesting playing in a stadium where you can hear absolutely everything,’ Mount told Chelsea’s official website

‘We will have to be careful with the way we communicate on the pitch, whether that’s telling players where to go or what to do on the ball and things like that. Overall I think it will be fine, but we may have to just be careful not to use any bad language!

‘I’ve been watching some of the German games and it’s good to see what it feels like with no fans at the stadium, and what it could be like for us during the games when we start the Premier League up again.

‘It’s very different and something we as players are not used to at all but if it means we can get back to playing football, then that’s great.

‘Obviously making sure everything is safe is the most important thing, because health is the first thing that needs to be considered, but seeing that they’ve managed to return in Germany and that we are following, it makes us very excited to get back playing.’

The Blues will be looking to kick on in their pursuit of a top-four finish amid huge pressure from those behind them in the table, especially Manchester United.

Frank Lampard’s side currently occupy fourth spot with nine matches remaining, but United sit three points behind having gone on an excellent run before the coronavirus crisis stopped football in its tracks.
