Chelsea winger Pedro ‘could join Valencia on a free transfer this summer’

Chelsea winger Pedro could join Valencia on a free transfer this summer, according to reports in Spain

The 33-year-old winger is out of contract at Stamford Bridge this summer, and with the expected arrival of attacking duo Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, he looks unlikely to extend his stay in west London.

As a result, the former Barcelona man has been linked with a move to Roma, but Pedro himself is keen on a return to Spain though his wages could be a point of obstruction for many clubs, according to Diario Sport

His current wages of £100,000-a-week is outside Valencia’s current budget, though if Pedro were to accept lower wages, a move to the Mestalla could be on the cards.

The transfer budget available to manager Albert Celades will be determined by the club’s final league position at the end of the 2019-20 season.

Qualifying for European competition would provide a financial boost to the LaLiga club, who are currently seventh in the table ahead of the league’s restart on June 11.

Pedro has been at Chelsea for nearly five years now, having joined the Blues from boyhood club Barcelona in 2015.

This season, Pedro has made 18 appearances under Frank Lampard, scoring twice and recording three assists.

He has won one Premier League title under Antonio Conte in 2017, one FA Cup and last year’s Europa League under Maurizio Sarri.

Previous to that, he was a member of Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering Barcelona side, scoring in the 2011 Champions League final victory against Manchester United.
