Chelsea: Jonas Hofmann fuels talk of Thomas Tuchel reunion, saying clubs have ‘expressed interest’

Jonas Hofmann has dropped a hint over a potential reunion with Thomas Tuchel after interest from Chelsea was directly put to him.

It was previously reported that Tuchel wanted to bring the £14million-rated Borussia Monchengladbach star to Stamford Bridge, having worked with the midfielder at Dortmund.

Bild had initially reported that there has been contact between Tuchel and Hofmann, with the 28-year-old potentially keen on a fresh challenge after five years at Gladbach.

And Hofmann has since been directly quizzed on the Blues’ pursuit, with the German not giving too much away but claiming he does have interest from clubs.

‘Basically, I feel good at Borussia, I’ve always emphasised that,’ the Germany international told Ruhr Nachrichten, as quoted by Sport Witness.

‘It may be that one or the other club has expressed its interest.

‘Nevertheless, for me, the absolute focus is on having a successful season with Borussia and dedicating myself fully to success. I put my personal situation under it.’

Then when asked directly about contact from Premier League giants Chelsea, Hofmann replied: ‘I think it’s clear that other clubs will notice you if you perform well. Therefore, it is possible that one or the other has already asked.’

Hofmann was linked with a move to Tottenham at the beginning of 2019 but extended his contract at Gladbach instead through until 2023.

He doesn’t have a release clause in that deal but would cost Chelsea or any other suitor only around £14m.

Hofmann’s form in the early part of the season impressed Germany coach Joachim Low and he was given a debut against Turkey in October.

And the midfielder has continued his fine form for his club, scoring seven goals and producing 11 assists in 24 matches across all competitions this term – even taking into account nine games missed through injury.

But he could soon be set to follow Marco Rose through the exit door, with the Gladbach boss taking over at Dortmund in the summer.
