  • Jamie Vardy was taunted by the home fans during the top flight clash
  • The chants came in response to the ongoing ‘Wagatha Christie’ High Court trial
  • Supporters labelled Vardy’s wife ‘a grass’ and chanted in support of Rooney

Jamie Vardy was taunted during Leicester’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Thursday, with home fans poking fun at his wife Rebekah’s ongoing ‘Wagatha Christie‘ trial.

Rebekah Vardy has been accused of leaking stories to The Sun by Wayne Rooney’s wife, Coleen, after she carried out a ‘sting operation’ to find out who was sharing information with the newspaper. Vardy has denied doing so, and has sued Rooney for defamation, leading to a £3million High Court trial.

Chelsea supporters made it clear whose side they were on as they chanted Rooney’s name throughout the game in west London, while also ridiculing Vardy’s wife.

‘Not often I’ve heard chants of “Rooney” at Stamford Bridge – following a chant of “Jamie Vardy your wife is a grass”!’ tweeted barrister PJ Kirby QC shortly after full time.

Rooney played for Manchester United between 2004 and 2017, and the Red Devils had a major rivalry with Chelsea throughout his playing days.

Indeed, Rooney admitted that he ‘wanted to hurt someone‘ when United faced Chelsea in 2006, such was his dislike for the Blues at the time.

However, Chelsea fans still chanted his family name on Thursday evening as they tried to get under Vardy’s skin.

Rooney himself gave evidence in the High Court on Tuesday, claiming he was asked to speak to his England team-mate during Euro 2016 over fears that his wife was ‘causing problems and distractions‘ for the players.

Vardy’s representatives responded to Rooney’s comments, labelling his version of events as ‘nonsense’.

The former England captain insisted that a conversation between himself and Vardy ‘100 per cent’ took place, though.

Closing arguments were made by Vardy and Rooney’s legal teams on Thursday, and the verdict on the case is now expected at a later date.
