Chelsea confident in securing deal for Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell amid Manchester City interest

Chelsea are increasingly hopeful of concluding a deal with Leicester City for Ben Chilwell ahead of the new season.

Talks are ongoing between the clubs with Chelsea clear favourites to sign the 23-year-old ahead of Manchester City.

Though content at Leicester, Chilwell is open to the move and the prospect of playing Champions League football while Chelsea believe they can agree what would be considered a reasonable fee for the England international.

Chelsea are upgrading their squad with talks ongoing with Bayer Leverkusen too over a fee for Kai Havertz. 

Frank Lampard also wants another goalkeeper and a centre back.

They have lost Willian and Pedro while they will consider offers for Marcos Alonso, Ross Barkley, Michy Batshuayi, Danny Drinkwater, Emerson Palmieri, Davide Zappacosta and Tiemoue Bakayoko, who has an offer from Milan.

Chilwell is the main target for the left-back slot, having impressed for Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes over the past few seasons.

The England international came through the youth ranks at the King Power Stadium before breaking into the first-team in 2015. He is one league appearance away from making 100 top-flight appearances for Leicester.  

The full-back has also been capped 11 times by Gareth Southgate at international level and is expected to be a key player in England’s European Championships squad next summer.

Lampard has until October 5 to seal all his Chelsea incomings and outgoings before the transfer window shuts, while the new Premier League season beginning on September 12.
