Chelsea ‘concerned Pedro will NOT sign a short-term contract until the end of Premier League season’

Chelsea are concerned that Pedro may not agree to a short-term deal until the end of the season, according to reports.

The 32-year-old winger was previously thought to have agreed to remain with the club for their nine remaining Premier League games depart at the end of the month when his contract expires.

However, as reported in The Sun, Pedro is hesitating over penning fresh terms out of ‘solidarity’ with team-mate Willian.

The former Shakhtar Donetsk star is also braced to become a free agent over the coming weeks.

A source from the club has reportedly revealed: ‘Pedro is ready to play on. He knows he is pretty much certain of leaving Chelsea at the end of this season.

‘He wants to do the right thing by the club too after a long time there and see the season out. But equally, he does not want to be the first one who signs before his pals have done the same.

‘And Willian’s situation is a bit different to his own. Willian is open to staying on at Stamford Bridge. Pedro is not keen to “break ranks” and go it alone.’

Pedro joined Chelsea from boyhood club Barcelona in 2015, and will have almost reached the five-year milestone should the Blues reach the rescheduled FA Cup final in August.

He had made 18 appearances this season, scoring twice and registering three assists, before the coronavirus crisis brought sport to a halt.

Having won one Premier League title in 2017, as well as achieving FA Cup and Europa League glory, Pedro has enjoyed a successful half-decade with Chelsea.

It is also suggested that he is continuing to monitor the progress of long-standing Manchester City servant David Silva. The wily Spaniard is another top-flight star set to become available on a free transfer at the end of June.

Despite Pedro’s short-term future touted to be closely linked with Willian’s, it is believed the 31-year-old is still hopeful of remaining at Chelsea for another year.
