Talks between the club and Chalobah’s representatives have been going on for some time and a new long-term contract is close to being agreed, according to football.london

The new deal is a U-turn for the defender, who joined Chelsea at age eight, as in early August the plan remained for him to head out on loan once again with several clubs across Europe said to be interested.

But the 22-year-old’s statement performance in the Super Cup against Villareal cemented his spot at Stamford Bridge.

Chalobah produced a near-flawless display over the 120-minute final to help the Blues to their second trophy under Tuchel.

Since then the defender has gone on to make eight appearances this term, with Chelsea yet to concede an open-play top-flight goal with him in their side.

But Chalobah has not only contributed to Chelsea’s table-topping campaign from the backline as he scored his first goal for the Blues in their season opener against Crystal Palace.

‘Playing at Stamford Bridge, where I’ve watched a lot of games, been a ball boy, come to watch the games with my family, Champions League nights…and now I’m finally playing here. It’s amazing.’
