American soccer fans were left outraged when CBS cut from its coverage of Manchester City‘s Champions League clash against Real Madrid to bring a breaking report on former President Donald Trump

Pep Guardiola‘s side travelled to Madrid Tuesday afternoon for a crunch semifinal first leg against Real Madrid in what was set to be a thrilling rematch of last year’s clash between the reigning Premier League winners and the Champions League holders.

However, soccer fans stateside were left stranded after CBS, the only channel that provides coverage of Europe’s biggest competition, cut off its program part way through the first half of the clash at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The network temporarily suspended its stream of the clash of the two titans to break the news that the 45th President of the United States had been found liable for battery and defamation.

And soccer supporters across the United States were left furious as they took to social media to slam the network for the interruption.

‘CBS really just stopped the UEFA Champions league game to tell us that Trump lost a civil case ????? Like brah Put the game back on wtf @CBS,’ one fuming viewer blasted on social media.

CEO & Founder of @snapback_sports Jack Settleman asked: ‘Is there anyway to get the champions league game back on or I gotta watch this trump special report ?’

Meanwhile, one Twitter user joking threatened: ‘If CBS doesn’t stop with their “special news report” and put the Champions League game back on I’m going to vote for Trump.’

‘There’s no way CBS stopped the Champions League game for Trump,’ one Twitter user wrote alongside an emoji of a man face-palm.

Another didn’t hang back at venting their frustration as they ranted: ‘WHY IS TRUMP INTERRUPTING THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GET ME BACK TO WHATS IMPORTANT @CBSSportsSoccer.’

A similar level of fury came from another soccer viewer on Twitter as they posted: ‘YOU D***HEADS STOPPED THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TO TELL US TRUMP IS 5 MILLION DOLLARS POORER WE DONT CARE PUT THE GAME BACK ON!!!!!’

Meanwhile, one American soccer fan incredulously asked: ‘They broke into the Champions League for the Trump verdict???’

Another viewer shared a photo from a sports bar that had been showing the game on the televisions behind the bar that showed the special report segment splashed across the screens rather than the action.

They announced, ‘Champions League broadcast interrupted for Donald Trump news,’ before adding, ‘Seriously though put the game back on.’

However, some social media users did point out that Univision, the network that has the Spanish-language rights to the coverage, reportedly was still showing the game and urged people to switch over.

The two teams were only 13 minutes into their battle when CBS’s red Special Report graphic splashed across American TV screens and the network launched into its breaking news segment with soccer completely forgotten about.

The broadcaster continued to report on the news that the former President had been found liable for battery and defamation in a civil case filed by E. Jean Carroll for a lengthy period.

Fans watching CBS missed 13 minutes of the game, with the coverage cutting out at approximately 3.15pm and resuming at around 3.28pm.

Thankfully for viewers, they didn’t missed any crucial action with the scoreline still liked at 0-0 when footage finally returned.

CBS could perhaps breathe a sigh of relief that those desperate to see the thriller between City and Real didn’t miss the opening goal of the game.

Vinicius Jr. scored a rocket of a strike in the 36th minute, eight minutes after the coverage resumed.
