Canyon Lake man arrested in connection with shooting, killing father


Comal County arrested a man who allegedly killed his father.

Law enforcement arrested a Comal County man in connection to shooting and killing his father on Wednesday, June 29. Canyon Lake resident Yacob Hickman, 25, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with first degree murder, according to a Comal County Sheriff’s Office social media post.

Comal County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting around noon on Wednesday in Canyon Lake at the 300 block of Campbell Drive. When deputies arrived at the residence they found Canyon Lake resident Paul Stautzenberger, 51, dead. Officials identified next of kin and immediately began investigating the shooting, according to the post.

Hickman, the biological son of Stautzenberger, was arrested soon thereafter. He was then booked into the Comal County Jail, according to the post.

The Comal County Crime Scene unit processed the crime scene. The investigation of Stautzenberger’s murder is still ongoing by detectives with the Comal County Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division, according to the post.
