A once-vaunted position group is now in flux for the Bucs. At the close of training camp last year, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Russell Gage, Julio Jones, Scotty Miller, Breshad Perriman, Deven Thompkins and Jaelen Darden made made up one of the league’s best receiving corps. Nine months later, only Evans, Godwin, Gage and Thompkins remain. The Bucs used a sixth-round pick on Trey Palmer to bolster that unit.

With the team likely to carry six receivers that means there are roster spots to be had. Palmer certainly figures to not only make the team, but play a big role in 2023 as well.

The Bucs sought to increase their speed with this draft and Palmer fit the bill. Palmer clocked in with blazing times of 4.33 seconds in the 40-yard dash, with a 2.52 second 20-yard split and 1.48 second 10-yard split. Palmer could even fit into a specific role new offensive coordinator Dave Canales might bring over from Seattle.

In 2022 Marquise Goodwin logged the third-most wide receiver snaps for the Seahawks. Goodwin, a former-third round pick, has stayed in the league for 10 years due to his own blazing speed.

Palmer’s speed compares favorably to Goodwin’s. Palmer clocks in marginally quicker at both the 10- and 20-yard distances, while Goodwin wins out at the full distance. But the two are pretty close in speed overall.
