Buccaneers WR Mike Evans Is 6th Player In NFL History To Do This

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans isn’t usually the first name that comes to mind when people are discussing the best pass catchers in the NFL. But, he probably should be as all he has done since being selected No. 7 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft is put up numbers.

The former Aggie has been as consistent as anyone throughout his career with the Buccaneers. Despite some shaky quarterback play, Evans has always made the most of it and put up some very good numbers.

Coming into 2022, Evans had surpassed the 1,000-yard receiving mark in all eight seasons of his career, including 2019 when he missed three games. This season is no different. Even with Tampa Bay’s struggles, Evans is on pace to surpass the 100-yard plateau once again as he needs 298 yards in five games. Averaging 70.2 yards per game this season, that is a number he should surpass as long as he remains healthy.

With that level of consistency, Evans has also been able to join an elite group of pass catchers with the statistics that he has racked up. In last week’s game against the Cleveland Browns, he surpassed 10,000 receiving yards for his career. 

That made him only the sixth player in NFL history to reach that plateau along with having at least 75 touchdown receptions in the first nine seasons of their career. He joins Jerry Rice, Calvin Johnson, Marvin Harrison, Larry Fitzgerald and Randy Moss on that list. All five players are in the Hall of Fame or in the case of Fitzgerald, awaiting their enshrinement until eligible.
