Borussia Dortmund chief hints at Jadon Sancho sale

Borussia Dortmund have admitted it is out of their hands whether Jadon Sancho leaves this summer but have warned rival clubs they will not be able to sign him cheaply.

Sancho joined the German giants from Manchester City‘s youth set-up in 2017 and has since gone on to become an integral part of the side as well as an England regular under Gareth Southgate.

His form in Germany as well as at international level has won admirers among Europe’s elite clubs, with Manchester United keen on signing him.

Sancho is rated at £100m and while Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke hopes to keep his star forward, he admits it is up to the 20-year-old on where he wants to continue his career after the summer.

‘We said before Corona that our favourite idea is that Jadon will stay with us,’ Watzke told Bild am Sonntag.

‘I can clearly say that even the very rich clubs, despite the existential crisis, do not have to believe that they can go on a bargain tour with us. We don’t have to sell anyone below value.

United are the front runners to land Sancho should he depart Dortmund, with the Red Devils keener than many of their rivals on paying the asking price for him.

Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona and Juventus have also been keeping tabs on the highly rated star but are slightly put off by a bidding war which could escalate well over £100m.

It would be a fee that would smash United’s transfer record following the £89million spent bringing Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford from Juventus in 2016.

Before the coronavirus outbreak halted the season, Sancho had netted 17 goals in all competitions across 35 games for Dortmund while also adding 19 assists to a team sitting second in the Bundesliga and looking to take a title battle to Bayern Munich.
