Bexar County Jail screening visitors for coronavirus symptoms

New precautions against the novel coronavirus are in place for people visiting inmates at the Bexar County Jail.

All visitors will now have their temperature checked and hands sanitized before entering the video visitation facility at 222 S. Comal St., the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday.

If someone is found to have a fever of 100.4 degrees, that person will be turned away to safeguard the health of the public and staff, officials said.

No restrictions have been placed on video visitation, but officials said they are possible in the near future. Any changes will be publicized before they are implemented.

Officials continue to ask that the public limit unnecessary outings to lessen the chances of infection, and maintain good personal hygiene and hand-washing.
