BCSO: Inmate at Bexar County Jail dies after committing suicide

An inmate at the Bexar County Jail died Wednesday night after committing suicide, the department confirmed.

An inmate at the Bexar County Jail died Wednesday night in a suicide, the department confirmed.

Officials said just after 7 p.m., a deputy was conducting his observation checks and saw the 53-year-old inmate attempting to kill himself. The deputy immediately cut the inmate down and radioed for help.

Medical staff responded and attempted to perform life-saving measures before the man  was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Less than two hours later, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Per procedure, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, Internal Affairs, and the Public Integrity Unit are investigating the death.

The man was in jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and prostitution. He had been in the jail since Oct. 28.
