Bayern Munich claim sextuple with win over Tigres
Record equalling season
Bayern Munich have made history following their 1-0 victory over Mexican side Tigres in the FIFA Club World Cup Final. France international Benjamin Pavard scored the games only goal in the 59th minute, in front of 12,000 spectators rounded, after a VAR check.
The victory means they have become only the second side ever to win the sextuple, all six trophies available to them, matching Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona team from 2009-10. The Manchester City manager offered his congratulations in a video to the club.

Their victory also saw the captain of that team, Carles Puyol, offer his congratulations and welcomed them to a very special club.

Manager completes clean sweep

It completes a remarkable season for the Bavarians under manager Hansi Flick. He was initially appointed as Niko Kovac’s assistant but replaced him in November 2019 on a temporary basis before being handed a permanent deal in April 2020.
The Bavarians won all three domestic trophies available to them. They finished 13 points clear of rivals Borussia Dortmund in the league, beat Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 in the German Cup and also beat Dortmund 3-2 to win the Super Cup.
In addition they also won they beat PSG 1-0 in the Champions League and Sevilla 2-1 in the UEFA Super Cup.
They will be unable to repeat the feat this season, having been knocked out the German Cup by minnows Holstein Kiel. They do sit 7 points clear of the Bundesliga and face Lazio in the last 16 of the Champions League.
They will be many people’s favourites to retain their position as the best club in Europe in Istanbul in May.
